Title 32. Notification of Emergency Procurement of Powdered Activated Carbon from Calgon Carbon (Event No. 6428)
Strategic Priority Infrastructure
Description Notification of the emergency procurement of powdered activated carbon from Calgon Carbon in the amount of $29,040.00. The Industrial and Domestic Water Department uses this chemical to mitigate the effects of algae in the raw water impoundment. Due to a failure in the level indicating system for the powdered activated carbon silo, the level reported was inaccurate and therefore had to be replaced immediately. Powdered activated carbon was particularly important due to an elevated manganese event in the Savannah River. Powdered activated carbon is highly effective in removing manganese. Calgon Carbon was selected because it was the first available vendor to immediately respond with the amount needed.
