Title 24. Authorize the City Manager to Execute a Contract Modification for ShotSpotter with ShotSpotter, Inc. in the Amount of $255,000. The modification will expand the ShotSpotter coverage of the existing services in all districts. (Police)
Strategic Priority Public Safety
Description This contract modification no. 1 for ShotSpotter flex gunfire location, alert, and analysis service will expand the service into four new zones increasing the current coverage by an additional 3.5 miles with ShotSpotter, Inc. (Newark, CA).
This will provide accurate and real-time information regarding gunfire within the expansion zone. ShotSpotter’s gun information is pushed to communications and officers in the field providing detailed information (GPS location, number of shots) concerning each incident. This item improves the Savannah Police Department’s response and evidence collection outcomes while providing an independent measurable process to gauge gunfire. It also includes forensic analysis which can be leveraged during investigations and prosecutions.
The 3.5-mile expanded coverage area will expand the current 4 miles paid for by the City of Savannah, which is augmented by another 2-mile area paid for by the Savannah College of Art and Design. This contract will advance City goals of public safety and priority 1 call response, and is designed to serve the best interests of the health and general welfare of the City, its residents, and the general public.
