Strategic Priority
Good Government
Description

The Coastal Empire Resilience Network (CERN) is an existing regional collaborative formed by the Chatham County - Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) with the support of a Coastal Incentive Grant from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Coastal Resources Division (GADNR CRD). CERN engages regional community partners, municipal staff, and policymakers to coordinate strategies to address the physical, economic, and social challenges Coastal Georgia communities face due to a changing climate. In 2021, CERN worked with stakeholders to develop a training curriculum for local elected officials.

CERN established key partners through a 2022 partner meeting with over 100 attendees, formed a website to disseminate information and host virtual Coffee Hours highlighting critical issues related to resiliency, and created a Coastal Regional Resiliency course. One goal of CERN is to support resiliency planning and educating decision makers so they can make more informed decisions regarding resiliency and sustainability for the communities they represent.
