Title
14. Motion to Procure Biological Treatment Blower for the Wilshire Water Reclamation Facility from Kittner, LLC (Event No. 6625)
Strategic Priority
Infrastructure
Description

Recommend approval to procure a 1268 Bare Blower from Kittner, LLC in the amount of $63,718.00.

The Water Reclamation Division of the Infrastructure and Development Department will use this blower to replace an undersized blower that is currently in use at the Wilshire Water Reclamation Facility located at 11015 Largo Drive.

A blower is one of the most important pieces of equipment at a wastewater treatment facility. Blowers compress ambient air and diffuse it into the biological treatment system. The air supplied to the biological treatment system is vital to the health and growth of the aerobic bacterium used to treat the incoming waste from households and industries.

The blower that is currently being used cannot sustain the air output needed to maintain oxygen throughout the aeration basins without the assistance of another blower. The blower will be standard heavy-duty construction with cast iron inlet and outlet heads, cast iron intermediate sections, and aluminum-alloy, shrouded type impellers. The impellers will be assembled on a heavy steel shaft which will be supported by two ball bearings of standard manufacture, oil lubricated.

This is a sole source because this is an additional item to be used with already existing equipment available only from this source.
