Title
41. Approval to Amend the Ordinance to Establish Turner Street as a One-Way Street Westbound between Montgomery Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
Strategic Priority
Public Safety
Description

City staff is requesting that Turner Street, between Montgomery Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, be made one-way westbound for more effective traffic flow and to prevent vehicle access from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

This section of Turner Street is narrow and cannot adequately accommodate two-way traffic, along with on-street parking. The street is located adjacent to the Savannah Cultural Arts Center and during major events at the Civic Center and Arts Center, traffic flow is heavily impeded by motorists traveling both directions on Turner Street and by parked vehicles on both sides of the street, which makes it difficult to traverse and/or access the street.

Recommend Turner Street be established as a one-way roadway westbound from Montgomery Street to Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. Mobility Services/Traffic Engineering is in agreement with this recommendation.

This requires an amendment to Code of the City of Savannah, Part 7-1027, Appendix I, Section 211. One-way Streets. (a) Generally
