COUNCIL WORK SESSION & CITY MANAGER'S BRIEFING

JANUARY 14, 2021 – 11:00 a.m.

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, the City Council Work Session and City Manager’s Briefing was held via Zoom video communications at 11:00 a.m. A quorum was present.

PRESENT:  Mayor Van R. Johnson, II, Presiding

Alderwoman Kesha Gibson-Carter, At-Large, Post 1, Chairman

Alderwoman Alicia Miller Blakely, At-Large, Post 2

Alderwoman Bernetta B. Lanier, District 1

Alderman Detric Leggett, District  2

Alderwoman Linda Wilder-Bryan, District 3

Alderman Nick Palumbo, District 4, Vice-Chairman

Alderwoman Dr. Estella Edwards Shabazz, District 5, Mayor Pro-Tem

Alderman Kurtis Purtee, District 6

The work session (by Zoom video) reconvened at 12:09 p.m.

• Boards, Commissions and Authorities - Discussion. (DISCUSSED by Mayor and Aldermen)

The Mayor, Aldermen and Alderwomen reviewed the list of applicants and openings provided by the Clerk of Council, in order to consider the appointments during the regular meeting by vote. The discussed ended at 12:58 p.m.

At the request of the City Manager, the Mayor and Aldermen convened another closed executive session regarding Real Estate.

Mayor Pro-Tem Dr. Shabazz moved to close the work session and hold a closed Executive Session regarding real estate, seconded by Alderwoman Miller Blakely. The motion passed unanimously.

The executive session began at 1:00 p.m.

Mayor Pro-Tem Dr. Shabazz moved to close the executive session and adjourn the work session, seconded by Alderman Leggett and Alderwoman Wilder-Bryan. The motion passed unanimously.

There was no action taken.

Mayor Johnson moved Item #2 up on the Agenda.

Mayor Pro-Tem Dr. Shabazz moved to close the work session and hold a closed Executive Session regarding personnel, litigation and real estate, seconded by Alderman Palumbo and Alderwoman Miller Blakely. The motion passed unanimously.

The executive session began at 11:01 a.m., regarding Personnel and litigation.

Mayor Pro-Tem Dr. Shabazz moved to close the executive session and return to the work session, seconded by Alderwoman Wilder-Bryan and Alderwoman Lanier. The motion passed unanimously.

The executive session ended at 12:06 p.m.

There was no action taken.

Mayor Johnson adjourned the Work Session at 1:36 p.m.
