Recommend approval of Contract Modification No. 2 for the Mills B. Lane Bridge rehabilitation project to Massana Construction in the amount of $235,249.00

The original contract was for construction services to rehabilitate the Mills B. Lane Bridge, located on Mills B. Lane Boulevard between Erickson Drive and Ross Road on Savannah's westside. 

This contract modification is needed to replace anchor bolts, nuts, expansion bearing plates, and repairs to the concrete. As part of the construction process, the contractor was required to unfasten the existing steel bridge beam and raise the bridge. Additional corrosion was discovered in several locations and a concrete spall once the bridge was raised.

The original contract was approved by Council on June 22, 2017 in the amount of $763,600.00. The total amount of this contract to date, including this modification, is $1,254,899.00. This modification could not have been foreseen by either bidder.
