Title
17. Motion to Amend the Zoning Ordinance Regarding Food Truck Courts (Petitioner: Douglas Kaufman)
Strategic Priority
Economic Strength And Poverty Reduction
Description

The Mayor and Aldermen approved this text amendment request following a zoning hearing at the April 12, 2018 City Council Meeting. The action being considered now is the approval of an ordinance for the text amendment.

Douglas Kaufman, Petitioner (File No. 18-000928-ZA) is requesting a text amendment to establish a new use, food truck court.  The intent of the amendment is to create the use in the Zoning Ordinance, provide for a definition, and establish where such use will be permitted.  The nature of food truck business is to provide service and peak times, not to be a fulltime food service provider. To that end, the City's Director of Planning and Urban Design has determined that the proposed use is separate and distinct from existing restaurant uses. The proposed food truck court use would serve as a location, with amenities, where food trucks could serve the public.

The amendment will complement the existing Mobile Food Service Ordinance and allow for a location where one or more food trucks could gather and operate.

The Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of the text amendment on March 13, 2018.
