30. Motion to Award Construction Contract to Johnson-Laux Construction for Cedar Street Improvements as part of the Savannah Shines Initiative (Event No. 7035)

Description

Recommend approval to award contract for Cedar Street Improvements to Johnson-Laux Construction in the amount of $727,528.57.  This project will benefit Aldermanic District 3, and shall include the installation of:

  • Approximately 720 square yards of sidewalk (6.5 blocks) along one side of Cedar Street including 20 sidewalk ramps and 82 linear feet of boardwalk sidewalk (to protect tree root zones)
  • Approximately 1,650 linear feet of curb and gutter (both sides of Cedar Street)
  • Mill and overlay approximately 2.5 blocks of pavement beginning to experience failure and install thirteen (13) 8” thick concrete lane aprons
  • Fifteen (15) stamped concrete crosswalks, crosswalk street signs, and traffic striping
  • Miscellaneous improvements including relocated fencing, relocated storm manholes, concrete drainage swales, and conduit installation for pedestrian scale street lighting by Georgia Power

Johnson-Laux Construction was selected as a State Annual Contractor.  This bid is in compliance with State of Georgia procurement requirements and was in agreement with the Engineer’s Opinion of Probable Construction Cost.  This project will provide for sidewalks and crosswalks along Cedar Street in the Edgemere-Sackville neighborhood to the new park.  It is recommended that the City procure construction services from Johnson-Laux Construction.
