Description Recommend approval to award a construction contract for the new Grant Center Gymnasium and limited renovation of Moses Jackson Community Center building to Dabbs-Williams General Contractors, LLC, (7 Mall Court Suite A, Savannah, GA) (B) in the amount of $3,840,000. This event had a 20% DBE goal with 10% L/DBE. The recommended primary proposer submitted DBE/LDBE participation at the subcontractor level in the amount of 1.8% using Big Bend Rebar (Historic District, 1 Corporate CT., Quincy, FL), (Certified through GDOT), 10.6% using Savannah Construction and Preservation(100 Bull Street Suite 200, Savannah, GA), (Certified through City of Savannah M/WBE), 8.3% using JCS Associates & Company (1600 Staley Ave, Savannah, GA), (Certified through GDOT). This project provides a new 10,380 sq. ft. gymnasium containing a full-size basketball court located at the intersection of West Street and Barnes Drive. The new gymnasium will replace the existing Grant Center Gymnasium and will provide the only City-owned regulation size gymnasium on the west side of Savannah. The building will include the gymnasium along with locker rooms, public restrooms, an entrance lobby, a snack bar and an office. The project will include site work, utilities and landscaping. The site is located northwest and adjacent to the existing Moses Jackson Center. The west end of Moses Jackson (2 existing rooms currently used for storage – approximately 2,250 SF) will also be renovated into a fitness room and weight room as part of this project. In addition, the existing windows in the Moses Jackson building will be replaced with new energy efficient widows. The Moses Jackson building will be connected to the new gymnasium building by sidewalks and a covered walkway. The existing playground and picnic shelter on the site will be removed. | |
