Title Motion to Adopt Resolution Requesting that the State Legislature Change the Name of the Talmadge Bridge to The Savannah Bridge | |
Description The Talmadge Bridge, a Georgia Department of Transportation facility, was named after former Georgia Gov. Eugene Talmadge in 1953. The bridge's name is not reflective of modern Georgia, and Gov. Talmadge had no strong connection with the City of Savannah. The bridge is a gateway from the world into Savannah, and naming the bridge after Savannah is appropriate. Approval of this resolution would request that the State Legislature take action this upcoming session. The City would also request support of this action from other elected bodies in Chatham County.
