Recommend approval of a construction services contract for improvements to Benton Boulevard/Spring Lakes Drive with Johnson-Laux Construction, LLC in the amount of $346,650.77. The improvements consist of adding a right turn lane onto the southbound travel lane of Benton Boulevard and left turn lane onto the eastbound lane of Spring Lakes Drive.

The need for this project is due to the increased development along the Benton Boulevard/Spring Lakes Drive corridor. Rapid growth in the area cause longer normal traffic delays during the drop-off and pick-up hours of the neighboring school.

Other improvements at the intersection will include a stop/go traffic signal installation which will be provided by Traffic Engineering staff and the City’s Annual Signal Construction Contractor, Hoffman Electric Inc. Signal construction will take place after the road improvements are complete, likely during the first quarter of 2021.

This purchase is being made through the State of Georgia contract for construction services (Contract #99999-SPD-S20160216-009). It was competitively bid by the State of Georgia and awarded to Johnson-Laux Construction, LLC.Per Section 2-4154 of the City’s Purchasing Ordinance, the City may purchase goods or services through the use of a state contract.
