Title 31. Motion to Procure HVAC System for Water Resources Laboratory from Edge Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, LLC (Event No. 6260)
Strategic Priority Infrastructure
Description Recommend approval to procure a condensing unit and HVAC system for the Water Resources laboratory from Edge Air Conditioning and Refrigeration in the amount of $29,750.00. The condensing unit will be used by Water Resources to replace an existing unit that is no longer economical to repair. The City of Savannah analyzes samples from three water reclamation facilities, one reclaimed water system, the Chatham County Watershed, and industrial samples. The laboratory is accredited by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In order to perform various analysis, the laboratory must be maintained under precise conditions. Steady state temperatures and air change-outs are required in order to maintain the clean environment needed in the laboratory. The HVAC system is larger and is more technical in its operation than a typical HVAC system. The laboratory HVAC system is maintained by both outside contractors and the City of Savannah’s Building Maintenance Unit. Components of the HVAC system have been replaced/repaired since the installation in 2005. Both entities evaluated the HVAC system and determined that the unit was beyond economical repair.
