October 10, 2024, City Council Regular Meeting |
Title 35. Authorize the City Manager to Execute Land Exchange Documents with Chatham County for a Radio Tower Site on Wilmington Island. |
Strategic Priority Good Government |
Description
The City owns a site on Wilmington Island to facilitate water and sewer infrastructure. The site was originally 14.75 acres. The City conveyed +/- 5 acres to the County in 2020 to facilitate development of a new radio tower and retained +/- 10 acres. The conveyance also included a drainage canal that was part of the County’s drainage system in the area. The County has now requested the City convey another part (+/- 0.5 acre) of the site and some access easements for development of the radio tower and is willing to grant back the +/- 4 acres prior conveyance (excepting the drainage ditch), which it will not be developing. The radio tower will be an important addition to public safety communications throughout the City and County. The City Attorney and County Attorney Offices are finalizing the exchange agreement.
