| Title 25. Authorize the City Manager to Execute a Contract for Two 4-Ton Hoist Replacement with Kone Cranes in an Amount Not to Exceed $139,914 (Water Reclamation) | |
| Strategic Priority GOAL 4: Develop World Class Livable Environment & Infrastructure | |
| Description This is sole source purchase to procure two 4-Ton hoist replacements from Kone Cranes in the amount not to exceed $139,914. The purchase of this equipment is to replace two hoists at the President Street Plant that have failed. The crane has been in operation since 1994 and undergoes annual reviews and inspections. The cranes are used for the removal of influent pumps and motors. The crane's components have failed and sourcing replacement parts is difficult due to the crane's age.
Having fully operational cranes is essential for the safe and efficient extraction and placement of major pumps that convey water into the plant. Without functioning cranes, the department is unable to pull pumps for routine maintenance, which impacts operational reliability. Replacing the hoist will extend its lifespan and incorporate modern features and technologies by retrofitting the hoisting units, thereby enhancing safety. One significant upgrade will include wireless control capabilities, allowing the operator to safely manage the hoist from a distance while handling loads. The retrofitted unit will also support compliance with our Risk Management Plan for chlorine storage and handling.
This is a sole source purchase because the department is currently replacing all hoists with Kone Cranes. Standardized equipment across the treatment facilities will allow the department to improve safety, reduce training complexity, and simplifies maintenance and parts management. This also allows staff to seamlessly work across facilities. Delivery: As needed. Terms: Net 30 days. The vendor is: C. P. Kone Cranes (Arlington, VA) (D) $139,914. A pre-bid meeting was not conducted as this is a sole source. (D) Indicates a non-local, non-DBE business. | |
