Motion to Approve Contract Modification No. 1 for Whistle Stop Junction to Pioneer Construction (Event No. 4758)
Description

Recommend approval of Contract Modification No. 1 to Pioneer Construction in the amount of $18,807.00.

The original contract was for demolition and reconstruction of a wall, roof repair, and floor repair of the Whistle Stop Junction building, which is located at the Visitors Center, 301 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

This modification is needed to repair damage sustained by the building during a recent rainstorm. Water began entering through the exterior siding, storefront door entrance, windows, and the interior gutter and downspouts inside of the wall. The work to be done includes the replacement of the exterior siding around the permit office, resealing and reinstalling the windows, installing a new vapor barrier, repairing the interior gutter system, replacing damage insulation, reinstalling a new exterior siding, and painting the exterior trim and siding.

The original contract was approved by Council on August 3, 2017 in the amount of $166,384.00. The total amount of this contract to date, including this modification, is $185,191.00. The second low bidder was Savannah Construction and Preservation, who submitted pricing in the amount of $280,000.00. This modification could not have been foreseen by any bidder.
