Title Motion to Amend Sec. 7-1121, Appendix I, of the Savannah Code of Ordinances to Create Multi-way Stop Control at West Gaston and Tattnall Streets | |
Description Traffic Engineering has evaluated the intersection of Tattnall and West Gaston Streets for multi-way stop control and determined that it meets the criteria based on restricted sight distance. Currently, Tattnall Street stops for West Gaston Street, and there are marked crosswalks across all four legs of the intersection. West Gaston is offset on either side of Tattnall, resulting in a slight jog as drivers move east/west. New construction on the northwest corner has resulted in obstructed sight distance for drivers southbound on Tattnall to observe vehicles approaching from the west; a similar issue presents for northbound drivers on Tattnall and westbound drivers on Gaston. Sight distance is limited in all directions due to a fence on the northeast corner, off-street parking on the southeast corner, a building on the southwest corner, and metered parking on the northwest corner. The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices permits the conversion of two-way stop control to multi-way control at “locations where a road user, after stopping, cannot see conflicting traffic and is not able to negotiate the intersection unless conflicting cross traffic is also required to stop,” as a safety measure. CODE AMENDMENTS Amend the Code of the City of Savannah GA, Section 7-1121, Appendix I, Sec. 227. Stop intersections enumerated. DELETE:
