Description

This contract is for the procurement of removal of emergent aquatic vegetation services at the Industrial & Domestic (I&D) Water Treatment Facility (WTF) by MPW Construction, LLC in the amount of $1,300,000. The alum sludge pond is located on-site at the I&D WTF and is roughly 10 acres in size. The alum sludge pond is a holding location for spent process water from the potable water treatment operation. By spending time in the alum sludge pond, the processed water has an opportunity to settle out accumulated debris before it is discharged into the environment. The Georgia Department of Environmental Protection (GA EPD) regulates the quality of the discharge water from the alum sludge pond. Routine maintenance on the alum sludge pond is required to ensure it functions as intended and produces discharge water that meets GA EPD’s water quality requirements. The last maintenance activities, which included alum sludge dredging from the pond, occurred in 2017. Since then, large amounts of vegetation have accumulated that need to be removed before additional dredging activities can take place.
