In the 2018 legislative session, a new law was approved to streamline the installation of small wireless facilities—known as small cells—in the right-of-way. The Georgia Municipal Association developed a model local ordinance and permit application to comply with state and federal law while still retaining levels of local control provided by state and federal laws. The City utilized these tools to revise Sections 8.9 Wireless Communications Facilities and 13.3 Defined Terms, Wireless Communications Facilities of the City’s Zoning Ordinance.
