Description
Notification of the emergency procurement for sludge hauling services with Denali Water Solutions for up to $600,000. The Public Works and Water Resources Department will use this service for hauling sludge that has accumulated during the sewage treatment process.
Currently the City contracted with a vendor to construct a dryer, which is mainly used to dry the sewage by-product. This reduces storage volume and transportation costs. Originally, the dryer was slated to be completed in February, however, during the performance trials some of the vital components failed. Currently, the design engineers are working to resolve the issues, and are expected to be completed June 2020.
Due to the immediate need to remove the sludge, an emergency purchase is required. This will allow the plant to continue operations without interruption and maintain compliance with regulations and other requirements.
