28. Motion to Approve Contract Modification No.7 with Thomas and Hutton for President Street, General McIntosh Boulevard, and Congress Street Improvements (Event No. 7003)

Description

Recommend approval of Contract Modification No.7 to Thomas & Hutton in the amount of $149,090.00.  The original agreement was for engineering services associated with the President Street/General McIntosh Improvements Project.

The contract modification is necessary due to the change in the projects scope of work for the design and installation of a new sanitary sewer station and force main.  The new sanitary sewer station and force main will serve the Eastern Wharf (formerly Savannah River Landing) development area.  This new lift station will also accept flow from City lift station No. 143, thereby providing needed increased capacity in upstream lift station No. 21.

The original contract was approved by Council in April of 2008 for $725,000.00.  The total of all contract modifications to date including this modification is $2,622,510.00 representing a 362% increase from the original contract amount.  Because this was originally a sole source purchase, Thomas & Hutton was the only bidder.
