Recommend approval of Contract Modification #3 for heavy equipment rentals to Savannah River Utilities (Savannah, GA)^(E)  for up to $300,000.

The original contract was for the rental of heavy-duty equipment needed for the Sanitation Department to perform central operations and remain EPD compliant at the Dean Forest Landfill when City-owned machinery and equipment is down for service or repair. This contract allows departments to rent multiple types of heavy equipment such as dump trucks, bulldozers, excavators and roll-off trucks that can be charged on an hourly, weekly or monthly basis.

The original contract was approved by Council on August 29, 2019 in the amount of $300,000. The contract was modified and renewed for up to $850,000 and approved by Council in 2020. The increase was required to provide compliance at the landfill while the City was waiting for newly ordered equipment to arrive. Modification #3 increases the total contract amount to $1,150,000. This increase is necessary due to multiple City departments utillzing the contract, including the Sanitation Department. The Water Reclamation Department is now using this contract for dump truck rentals and operators for hauling sludge to the Dean Forest Road Landfill. The department was unable to haul internally due to their dump trucks needing repairs and staffing shortages.
