Description

The Petitioner requests an amendment of Articles 2.0 (Review Bodies and Administrators) and 3.0 (Application and Review Procedures) to clarify review authority, specific criteria, and expiration timelines for Variances, Special Exceptions, and Certificates of Appropriateness.

Recommendation

On January 27, 2026, the Planning Commission recommended approval of the proposed amendments to Sections 2.5, 2.6, 3.12, 3.18, 3.19, 3.21, and 3.23 of the City of Savannah Zoning Ordinance with the following condition:

  1. City Staff provide information from other stakeholders.

Since the Planning Commission's approval, City staff has met with the Historic District Board of Review, Historic Preservation Commisison, Savannah Chapter of the AIA, Downtown Neighborhood Assocation, Forsyth Park Community Alliance, Oglethrope Plan Coaltion, and Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce.
