Title 49. An Ordinance to Amend the Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance to Include State Authorized Exceptions for Publicly Operated Stadiums, Coliseums and Auditoriums
Strategic Priority Good Government
Description This amendment to the Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance updates the City's current policies on Sunday Sales to adopt state provisions which allow public stadiums, coliseums and auditoriums owned or controlled by a municipality or public authority to be exempt from laws requiring 50% of gross sales to be derived from prepared food sales. Per OCGA 3-3-7 (n), this exemption would apply only to those public owned entities with seating capacity greater than 2,500 people. This exemption will benefit the Savannah Civic Center, as a municipally owned auditorium and stadium with more than 2,500 seats. As the Civic Center continues to increase bookings and events in an effort to become more financially self-sufficient, they desire to hold full concession sales, including alcohol, on all days of the week when events, appropriate for alcohol sales, are held.
