Title 24. Motion to Approve Contract Modification No. 1 for Retaining Wall Repairs to Midwest Maintenance, Inc. (Event No. 5469)
Strategic Priority Infrastructure
Description Recommend approval of Contract Modification No. 1 for retaining wall repairs to Midwest Maintenance, Inc. in the amount of $21,342.16. The Louisville Road retaining wall was damaged from excess weight by the train cars that sat adjacent to it. The train cars have been moved to the Railroad Museum and the wall can now be repaired. The current wall is leaning and has a gap from a previous collapse. This project will install a new footing to support the wall, reconstruct the arch in the collapsed area and replumb a portion of the wall. The contractor is required to salvage as many bricks as possible for reuse in the project. This contract modification is needed to increase the linear footage of the wall repair. After removing the original 54 feet of wall, it was determined that another 20 feet would need to be replaced in order to correct the lean in the wall. The original contract was approved by Council on December 21, 2017 in the amount of $78,000.00. The total amount of this contract to date, including this modification, is $99,342.16. The original bid from Midwest Maintenance, Inc., was $138,460.00, but was reduced to $78,000.00 through value engineering. The second low bidder was Dohrman Construction Preservation in the amount of $144,300.00. This modification could not have been foreseen by either bidder.
