Title Motion to Procure Backhoe from Low Country Machinery (Event 5088)
Description Recommend approval to procure a backhoe/loader from Low Country Machinery in the amount of $52,640.05. The backhoe/loader will be used by the Streets Maintenance Department, and will replace an existing unit that is no longer economical to repair. Streets Maintenance uses the equipment in its sidewalk and road maintenance operations. The equipment is used to break up, remove and load concrete, asphalt or bricks into dump trucks, in preparation of needed maintenance and/or repair of a sidewalk or road. While the low bidder submitted a price of $69,140.05, it also offered a trade-in amount of $16,500.00 for the City unit being replaced, making the net cost $52,640.05. The unit to be replaced was procured in 2013 at a cost of $62,127.00 and was not due for replacement until 2021. The cost to replace the engine, including parts and labor, was more than $30,000.00 with a limited 1-year/1,000 mile warranty. The decision was made that in the long-term the City will likely save money and reduce equipment downtime by purchasing a new backhoe/loader instead of making repairs.
