Recommend approval of Contract Amendment No.1 for additional design services for Lift Station No. 23 upgrades with Hussey, Gay, Bell, and DeYoung, Inc. in the amount of $205,805.

The original contract was for design services for Lift Station No. 23, which is located north of the SCAD hive and south of the Oglethorpe Avenue on-ramp to the Talmadge Bridge. 

This amendment is needed to revise the project design to accommodate the proposed widening of the Springfield Canal. The new design will allow an additional 2,000 gallons per minute of influent (incoming waste water) from the new City of Savannah Arena, commercial, and residential development associated with the new Canal District.

The increase in design costs will be offset by savings in reduced geotechnical drilling requirements under the current contract.  In addition, $15,057 of the additional fee will go to a DBE engineering firm (Griffin & Davis) for traffic control plans and Georgia DOT permitting assistance.

This contract was originally approved by Council on December 20, 2018 in the amount of $1,116,875.  The total amount of this contract to date, including this amendment is $1,322,680.
