In the 2018 legislative session, a new law was approved to streamline the installation of small wireless facilities—known as small cells—in the right-of-way. The Georgia Municipal Association developed a model local ordinance and permit application to comply with state and federal law while still retaining levels of local control provided by state and federal laws. The City utilized these tools to add a new section to City Code called the Small Wireless Facilities and Antennas Ordinance.  Real Property Services will administer the permitting process for small wireless facilities. 

Stakeholders including the wireless communiciations industry, Scenic Chatham, Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport and MPC have been contacted about the new ordinance.
