Recommend approval of Amendment No. 2 to Barrett Sports Group in the amount of $55,000.00.

On May 25, 2015, the City awarded a contract for the arena/Civic Center site study services to Barrett Sports Group in the amount of $175,800.00. The original contract was to collect, analyze, understand, and compare information necessary to make critical decisions related to the proposed arena and existing Civic Center sites. On June 9, 2016, and at Council’s request, the City amended this contract to include further study of developing a new arena on the existing Civic Center site, as well as development of the Canal District.

The City has now requested that Barrett Sports Group, LLC amend its contract to include assisting the City in procuring arena design and construction project management services for the arena and the first phases of the Canal District Park. This amendment includes procuring the consulting services of an experienced arena design and construction project manager, which will be essential to moving the City’s arena and Canal District project forward as rapidly as possible.

The arena project, in particular, will require specialized project management expertise. Barrett Sports Group will assist the City in writing the request for proposal (RFP) for these services and in the evaluation of the proposals. Barrett Sports Group’s expertise in assisting the City in defining and writing the scope of services for the project management consultant will be a critical part of the RFP.

The original contract was approved in Council on May 25, 2015 in the amount of $175,800.00. The total amount of this contract to date, including this amendment, is $585,450.00.
