Title 28. Motion to Award Sole Source Procurement of School Zone Beacon Control System Upgrade to Temple, Inc. (Event No. 6292)
Strategic Priority Public Safety
Description Recommend approval to procure school zone beacon control systems from Temple, Inc. in the amount of $203,698.38. The systems will be used to upgrade 61 school zone beacons, and include retrofit kits and a 10-year connectivity/support plan. This equipment will modernize the school zone beacon control systems to prevent any traffic interruptions. It is the City’s intention to move quickly to expedite this process in order to have fully and reliably functioning school zone beacon control systems before the 2018 – 2019 school year begins. As a result, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) traffic safety equipment contractor will be used to perform this project to meet the time constraints and City ordinance requirements. GDOT used a competitive bidding procedure to select Temple, Inc. to serve as the sole provider of these systems for this region. The GDOT’s traffic safety equipment contract is considered a convenience contract that is available for use by all state, city, and county public entities. The purpose of this contract is to ensure that GDOT’s current specifications and equipment upgrades are met. Additionally, this system will correspond to the new GDOT statewide traffic school beacon control system that is currently being implemented.
