Description This contract is for the procurement of a weapons systems from Clyde Armory in an amount not to exceed $371,334. The Savannah Police Department (SPD) will utilize the Red Dot Optic Sights (RDOS) Weapons System to significantly improve officers’ aiming proficiency while also providing an expanded field of vision during aiming activity by replacing the traditional iron sights with a red dot on the target. Iron sighted accuracy averaged 28% proficiency, whereas RDOS was accurate 70% of the time. This proficiency has proven to be the greatest challenge for recruits in the academy and the single greatest reason for prospective new officers’ failure to graduate. Not only will the RDOS system serve as a recruiting tool, but it will also assist in officer retention as other local jurisdictions including the Chatham County Police Department, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department, and the Port Wentworth Police Department have or are in the process of transitioning to this more modern, higher accuracy system, which facilitate current officers in maintaining required yearly state certifications. Clyde Armory will trade in SPD’s Glock 17s and replace them with Smith and Wesson M & P 2.0 4.25s at no cost to the City. SPD will only be required to purchase the Red Dot Optic Sights, weapons lights, and holsters utilizing condemned funds. Per section 2-4152 of the City’s Purchasing Ordinance, the City may purchase goods or services using a state contract. The State Contract used for this procurement is Clyde Armory & Police Protection Systems contract# 99999-001-SPD0000157 for Guns and Ammunition which will expire on January 16, 2024.
