Motion to Procure Water and Sewer Relocation Design Services for Ogeechee Road from Thomas and Hutton (Event No. 5170)

Recommend approval to procure water and sewer relocation engineering and design services from Thomas and Hutton in the amount of $240,822.00.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is beginning a project to widen and raise Ogeechee Road from I-516 to Victory Drive, loctaed in Aldermanic Districts 1 and 5. To resolve conflicts between the proposed widening with the City’s water and sewer infrastructure, utility relocation design will have to be performed. The City of Savannah and GDOT will enter into a co-sharing agreement for design and construction.

The work will include:

  • removing approximately 1,200 linear feet of an existing 24-inch waterline and replacing it with a new 24-inch waterline;
  • removing approximately 6,000 linear feet of an existing 6-inch waterline and replacing it with a new 8-inch waterline;
  • removing approximately 1,200 linear feet of an existing 4-inch force main and replacing it with a new 4-inch force main; and
  • removing approximately 3,200 linear feet of an existing 8-inch gravity sewer and replacing it with a new 8-inch gravity sewer.

All work shall be conducted while maintaining water and sewer service. All water and sewer line relocation designs shall be coordinated with GDOT Engineer and shall be installed using open-cut methods inside GDOT rights of way. The relocation plan format shall be in GDOT format.
