Title Motion to Amend Sec. 7-1018, Appendix I, of the Savannah Code of Ordinances to Create a School Zone on Bull Street Between Anderson and Brady Streets | ||||||||||||||
Description In preparation for the opening of the new Susie King Taylor Community School, for the 2017-2018 school year, the Traffic Engineering Department assessed the prevailing conditions on Bull Street between Anderson and Brady streets. Bull Street is designated as a major collector route with an average annual daily traffic along this segment of approximately 4,800 vehicles per day. The speed limit on Bull Street is 30 MPH from Anderson Street to Victory Drive. The Susie King Taylor Community School will open with 160 students in grades kindergarten through 4. The school will be located at 1709 Bull Street, on the corner of Bull and West 34th streets, in the Thomas Square Neighborhood. This area is heavily congested, as SCAD Arnold Hall is across the street and the Bull Street Library is one block to the south. It is expected that traffic volumes will increase, particularly during school drop-off and pick-up times. A reduced speed school zone on Bull Street, between Anderson and Brady Streets, will mirror the existing school zone on Whitaker Street and create a uniform speed limit on the north/south streets bordering the school campus. ADD CODE AMENDMENT Amend the Code of the City of Savannah, Section 7-1018, Appendix I, Section 208, Speed Limits for Off-System Roadways, to include:
