July 18, 2019 City Council Regular Meeting
Title
35. Motion to Adopt a Resolution Transfering Title of the Property known as 226 and 228 Cumming Street, West Savannah, to the Land Bank Authority for the Development of One New Single Family Unit
Strategic Priority
Neighborhood Revitalization
Description

The Mayor and Aldermen have undertaken an initiative to bring about the redevelopment of blighted, abandoned, property with new housing on Cumming Street in the West Savannah neighborhood.  The Chatham County / City of Savannah Land Bank Authority (LBA) has requested that the City transfer title to two vacant lots known as 226 and 228 Cumming Street to the LBA.   The LBA, in turn, will work with CHSA Development, Inc. (CHSA) to bring about the recombination of the two narrow lots into a single 60’ wide lot on which CHSA will construct and sell a new single family home to a qualified modest income home buyer through the City’s DreamMaker home purchase program.  Construction of the new house is planned to begin in September 2019.  Adoption of this Resolution will help the City begin and expedite its goal of facilitating the redevelopment of Cumming Street blighted properties with new housing and homeowners.  The City has, in the past, similarly transferred blighted property in other neighborhoods to the LBA for this purpose.
