Description
The City leases 602 East Lathrop Avenue for use as the Savannah Police Department's Northwest Precinct, the Traffic Unit, and Administrative support offices. The City and Landlord have negotiated an amendment to the lease to manage two ongoing issues.
The first issue pertains to replacement of the zone control system of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system. On November 20, 2018, Council approved the procurement of repair services for the control system at the Northwest Police Precinct facility from Southeastern Air Conditioning in the amount of $48,700.00. The zone control system was old and could no longer be supported by service or replacement parts, and was damaged by a contractor during recent renovations.
The second issue being addressed with the amendment is to manage existing furniture. The premises was leased fully furnished, but some staff have brought in other furniture and moved existing furniture to an on-site storage room. This amendment authorizes the City to dispose of any unwanted furniture.
The City and Landlord have negotiated a settlement to split the cost of replacement, with landlord paying half through a $24,350 rent credit to the City, and the City paying the other half. The City is seeking recovery of its share from the contractor that caused the damage.
