This contract is for the purchase of one Ford Explorer Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) from Wade Ford in the amount of $39,618.

The Fire Department will use the Ford Explorer SUV for the fire position enhancement approved in FY21 for the Savannah Fire Department. The replacement vehicle will serve as transportation for emergency and non-emergency situations, providing service to the City of Savannah citizens and visitors. As a public safety division, the fire vehicles are on call 24 hours every day and can respond to all fire/rescue emergencies operating in command staff capacities, including major events involving multiple agencies within or outside the City of Savannah.

The Ford Explorer will help the Savannah Fire Department support the City of Savannah’s strategic initiatives to ensure citizens feel safe in their neighborhoods. 

This Purchase will replace unit number 8560 which is at the end of its life cycle. The current older car from 2008 will cost more to maintain and likely will not make the 2022 year-end. The aging fleet of support vehicles is becoming unreliable and would place the operator at risk by not having proper equipment available to respond to incidents. This new fleet addition will add a much-needed vehicle to the growing fire administrative section as the City continues to expand services to the community.

This purchase will be made using a state contract offering the City of Savannah fleet-customer pricing to reduce overall costs. 

Per Section 2-4154 of the City’s Purchasing Ordinance, the City may purchase goods or services through the use of a state contract. The contract used for this procurement is a State of Georgia contract for administrative vehicles (Contract # 99999-SPD-ES40199373-009S). It was competitively bid by the State of Georgia and expires on November 30, 2022.
