A Proclamation Declaring September 4 - September 10, 2022 as “Labor Week” in the City of Savannah to Recognize the Accomplishments and Contributions of the Working Savannah Taskforce and the Savannah Regional Central Labor Council Benefitting all Workers and the Savannah Community. The Council’s efforts and initiatives are constantly seeking equality and economic justice for all of Savannah's citizens.

Description

The American Labor Movement is represented in southeast Georgia by the Savannah Regional Central Labor Council AFL-CIO. It is comprised of 37 affiliated local unions and represent over 8,400 members in Southeast Georgia. Some of the unions are the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 320, International Association of Machinists Local 23, International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 26, United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 188, and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 256, each having been in Savannah for over 100 years. Savannah landmarks like City Hall, Cathedral of St. John, Jepson Center, Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospitals, Railroad Roundhouse, Savannah Civic Center, and Oglethorpe Mall are a few that were built by Organized Labor Building Trades Unions with US DOL registered and certified Training Programs. The Savannah Regional Central Labor Council AFL-CIO work to reach consensus' on strategies and solutions to working family issues both on and off the job through the affiliated local unions. One major goal is to help recruit, support and elect candidates that understand working family issues and will fight for their needs.
