Title 34. Motion to Approve Intergovernmental Agreement with Chatham County Concerning Shooting Range Remediation and Operating Costs
Strategic Priority Public Safety
Description The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office operates a shooting range, which is utilized by several police agencies in Chatham County, including the City and County police departments. The Sheriff's Office must undertake a remediation and refurbishment of the range due to build-up of lead from bullets over the years. The using agencies have agreed to contribute toward those clean-up costs. The estimated remediation cost is $140,500. The City’s agreed-upon share of the cost is $53,390. Going forward, Sheriff Wilcher has requested all user agencies pay a portion of the operating costs of the range at the rate of $10 per officer user per year. Beginning in 2019, the City will pay the County a total of $10 per officer user per year for use of the range.
