Title Motion to Approve Letter of Agreement with the University of Georgia to Conduct Wood Storks Colony Modification Study
Description The Savannah Airport Commission requests approval of a letter of agreement with the University of Georgia, Savannah River Ecology Laboratory, in the amount of $49,280.00, to conduct a colony modifications study associated with the movement of wood storks on airport property. A wood stork population nesting area is located on wetlands on Savannah Airport Commission property. Removal of the nesting site is necessary to ensure safety of flight operations, protect human health and to comply with the Airport's Wildlife Hazard Management Plan required under Federal Aviation Regulation Part 139.337. The University of Georgia will conduct a study of the wood stork nesting behavior, particularly relative to breeding site tenacity/movement among potential breeding sites. This task will assess the impact of breeding site loss on parent wood storks by documenting their movements before, during, and after colony site modification, and for several years after the colony site modification/removal. This mitigation is required prior to modification of the nesting site.
