Title Motion to Adopt a Resolution to Submit a Coastal Incentive Grant Application for Habersham Village Green Infrastructure Planning
Description The Coastal Incentive Grant is funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Coastal Resources Division (GA DNR). All grant applications must have approval by the governing authority in resolution. Grant dollars will be used to analyze existing conditions in the Habersham Village area, located in Aldermanic District 4, to establish costs and benefits of green infrastructure. Green Infrastructure is the use of methods that mimic natural processes to treat and absorb stormwater. An example of green infrastructure is a tree lawn. The trees and ground are engineered and installed in a way that maximizes the absorption and treatment of stormwater. Added benefits are urban heat reduction and beautification. This planning process will compliment existing drainage improvement projects and will be a cooperative planning effort with the private property owner and the businesses. This planning effort does not include or preclude any future action by the City with regard to design or construction plans. Habersham Village was chosen as the site of this program because of the area's existing drainage challenges, and to complement proposed drainage improvements in the area. Habersham Village private property owners have expressed support for this program.
