Title
32. Motion to Approve Conservation Easement and Preservation Agreement with the Historic Savannah Foundation Concerning Historic Structure at 419 W. 34th Street
Strategic Priority
N/A
Description

The City of Savannah and the Historic Savannah Foundation have negotiated an agreement that will restore the historic two-story structure at 419 W. 34th Street, and renovate the building into a caretaker's cottage for the Central Precinct facility being constructed on the same property. Under terms of the proposed agreement, the Historic Savannah Foundation will contribute $50,000.00 to hire an architect and develop plans and specifications the City will use to hire a contractor to rehabilitate the structure in keeping with the historic and architectural character of the building. The balance of the contribution will be placed in an account for ongoing maintenance of the building.

In exchange for this contribution, the City would accept a Historic Savannah Foundation conservation easement on the property for a period of 10 years from completion of the project, which grants the organization continued oversight of exterior alterations, repairs and improvements of the structure. Under terms of this conservation easement, the Historic Savannah Foundation would provide written approval that any plans for exterior repairs, improvements or construction work is consistent with the Secretary of Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
