8. Authorize the City Manager to Accept a Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Youth Grant Award in the Amount of $1,056,019. The award will be used to provide youth programs from April 1, 2023 to June 30, 2025 to low-income youth between the ages of 16 and 24. The City serves as the fiduciary agent for the 10-county region.

Description

The City of Savannah has received a “Statement of Grant Award” for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Youth Program from the Technical College System of Georgia, Office of Workforce Development in the amount of $1,056,019. The Program Grant Award will provide year-round youth programs for the period of April 1, 2023 to June 30, 2025 to low-income youth between the ages of 16 and 24. The youth program will include work experience, occupational skills training, alternative secondary school services, tutoring, and supportive services. The youth program will serve Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh and Screven counties.

Pursuant to the Coastal Workforce Services Consortium Agreement, the City of Savannah serves as the fiduciary agent for the 10-county region, and as such, City Council approval and authorization for the City Manager to receive grant funds and enter into grant administration agreements is necessary in accordance with the City of Savannah's procurement policies and procedures.
