Title
14. Authorize the City Manager to Execute Contract Modification No.1 for Construction Services to Lift Station No.28 Sewer Force Main with Southern Champion Construction Services in the Reduced Amount of $182,794 (Event No.6881)
Strategic Priority
Infrastructure
Description

Recommend approval of Contract Modification No.1 with Southern Champion Construction for construction services to Lift Station No. 28 sewer force main in the reduced amount of $182,794.

The original contract was for the installation of approximately 4,850 linear feet of 10-inch force main. The force main extension starts on Albion Street, south of the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing and continues through the Woodville/Bartow neighborhood and discharges into an existing manhole along Augusta Avenue, east of I-516.

The modification is needed due to a reduction of the City’s expense for erosion control at Lift Station No. 28. During the project, the scope was expanded by adding an additional 2,900 linear feet of force main.  This additional footage allowed for the elimination of a proposed sanitary sewer. Therefore, the City was able to save on the cost of erosion control materials.

This contract was originally approved by Council on April 11, 2019 in the amount of $2,229,360. The total amount of the contract to date, including this modification is $2,046,566.
