Description

Recommend approval of Phase One of a two-phase construction contract to fabricate and unload the Arena Pedestrian Bridge with Savannah-based Johnson-Laux Construction (A) in the amount of $536,309.

The steel truss bridge will be 110 feet long and 16 feet wide, and will connect the parking lot with the arena.

This contract, which is the first of two phases, is with Savannah-based Johnson-Laux Construction through the State of Georgia construction services contract.  In this phase, Johnson-Laux will develop the bridge superstructure design, fabricate the bridge, and deliver the bridge to the site. The second phase, which will come before Council at a later date, will include installation of the bridge foundation, bridge erection, and pouring the deck. The contract is being broken into two phases to expedite commencement of fabrication due to supply-chain issues currently being experienced. This will ensure the bridge is operational in time for the planned arena opening.

The State Contract with Johnson-Laux (Contract #99999-SPD-S20160216-009) was competitively bid by the State of Georgia and awarded to Johnson-Laux Construction, LLC. Per Section 2-4154 of the City’s Purchasing Ordinance, the City may purchase goods or services through the use of a State contract.

S.C. Johnson-Laux (Savannah, GA)(A) $536,309

A pre-bid meeting was not conducted as this is a State of Georgia Contract. (A) indicates Local, DBE owned business.
