May 24, 2018, City Council Regular Meeting
Title
6. Motion to Amend the Zoning Ordinance Regarding the Mid-City Design Review Process (Petitioner: Planning Commission)
Strategic Priority
Neighborhood Revitalization
Description

This zoning hearing was continued from the City Council meeting of April 26, 2018. As requested by the City Council, on May 7, 2018, MPC staff presented the proposed text amendment during a meeting with the Thomas Square Neighborhood Association.

This MPC staff-initiated petition (File No. 18-001150-ZA) revises the Mid-City design review process to:

  • Require that new construction be reviewed by the Planning Commission rather than the Design Administrator
  • Gives the Planning Commission the authority to waiver measurable design and development standards by up to 20% when visually compatible
  • Implement a demolition review process that is consistent with the demolition review process in the Victorian District.

On April 3, 2018, the Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of the petition to amend the zoning ordinance.
