Description

Recommend approval of Contract Modification No. 1 for Industrial and Domestic Water Laboratory with Dabbs-Williams General Contractors in the amount of $114,353.00.

The original contract was for the new building which will be used as a quality control testing facility for the Public Works and Water Resources Department.  This amendment is needed due to the change in the project scope of work for the installation of a new generator the will alleviate the limited available capacity of the existing plant service and switchgear.

  • Changes to the laboratory, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC and casework changes for per attached field change directive PCO#1, dated 12/07/18 for a total price of $22,619.00. The laboratory changes were initiated by City Operations Staff to accommodate changes in testing protocol associated with the new surface water impoundment constructed as part of the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project.
  • 200-foot extension of 2” PVC water service line per attached field change directive PCO#2, dated 12/11/18 for a total price of $2,424.00. The original tie-in point for water was the 12-inch main west of the proposed building.  Due to this line being utilized primarily for fire protection, City Staff preferred the 6-inch line north of the building.  This tie-in point is approximately 200 LF further north than indicated on drawings.
  • Furnishing and installation of new 600-amp breaker, generator with pad, tank, fuel & excavating trench to install conduit furnished by Ga Power for separate electrical service for new laboratory per attached field change directive PCO#3, dated 01/18/19 for a total price of $89,310.00.  Proposal also includes credit to delete electrical work to tie new lab into existing building.  Coordination study is included in proposal. The separate electrical service and generator for the laboratory was initiated by City Operations Staff due to limited available capacity of existing plant service and switchgear.

The contract was originally approved by Council on July, 19, 2018 in the amount of $2,038,000.00.  The total amount of this contract to date, including this modification, is $2,152,353.00.
