Description

Recommend approval to renew an annual contract for roadside aquatic vegetation maintenance with NaturChem, Inc. (Lexington, KY)(D) for up to $53,250. The Greenscapes Department uses the contract to provide roadside and canal/aquatic vegetation maintenance by means of chemical control during the growing season, April through November. The contractor will maintain approximately 58 roadway miles of rights-of-ways in various locations within the City limits to include control of Johnson grass, woody stem and broadleaf as well as application of a growth regulator. The contractor will also be responsible for controlling aquatic vegetation (alligator grass) growth along eight miles of canal ways leading to pump stations, which if left unchecked can pose a serious threat to the performance of the City’s drainage systems. 

The contractor must have experience applying herbicides and meet State of Georgia Department of Transportation requirements in the category of turf and ornamentals, aquatics, and right-of-way pest management. The contractor shall also be fully responsible for the purchase, storage, handling, and container disposal of all chemicals used in this process, complying with all OSHA/EPA/State Department of Agriculture regulations pertaining to the use of herbicides.

This original contract was bid and approved by Council on February 28, 2019. This is the second of three annual renewal options available.
