June 25, 2020 City Council Meeting
Title
19. Adoption of a Resolution to Imposing a Temporary Stay on the Issuance of New Alcoholic Beverage Licenses for Convenience and Package Stores within Aldermanic District 3
Strategic Priority
Neighborhood Revitalization
Description

District 3 Alderwoman Linda Wilder-Bryan has requested a 90-stay on the issuance of any new alcoholic beverage licenses for convenience and package stores within the District 3 to allow for the establishment of reasonable and ascertainable standards for the regulation and control of alcoholic beverages in a manner designed to promote the health, safety and general welfare of the community.  The proposal will address the proliferation of establishments possessing licenses to sell or dispense alcoholic beverages within the Third Aldermanic District, and that continued issuance of licenses will present a condition at variance with the purpose and intent of the Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance.

Approval would impose a 90-day stay on the processing of new applications for licenses to sell or dispense alcoholic beverages for convenience and package stores submitted by persons owning or occupying real property within the Third Aldermanic District. During the 90-day stay, staff will research best practices, engage the community and propose revisions to the Code of Ordinances to address the issues associated with the continued issuance of new licenses to sell alcoholic beverages from convenience and package stores within the Third Aldermanic District.
