Description

Recommend approval of a contract for the bulkhead and canal widening at City Lot with C.A. Murren & Sons Heavy Civil LLC in the amount of $3,608,336.

The Arena construction schedule calls for the contractor to mobilize to the site in September to construct the Arena canal bulkhead and widen the canal to 60 feet.

The City will save both time and money by having the contractor construct the City Lot portion of the bulkhead while still onsite rather than re-mobilizing separately at a later date.  The cost savings for not remobilizing is about $125,000.  In addition, the contractor will have construction personnel onsite who are familiar with the bulkhead construction methodology along this section of the Springfield Canal.  The City Lot bulkhead is in final design and has similar details to the Arena bulkhead.

This vendor was the low bidder for the Arena portion of the Canal Bulkhead and Canal Widening; the company has proposed DBE participation at a minimum of 25% for this project.

The City Lot bulkhead project will include a 20 foot wide walkway to provide uninterrupted pedestrian access from Gwinnett Street to the new Arena building.

The funding for this request is from SPLOST VII.
