June 22, 2017 City Council Regular Meeting (Amended June 20, 2017)
Title
Motion to Modify Contract for Intersection Improvements at Habersham and Kensington with JHC Corporation (Event No. 4606)
Description

Recommend approval of Contract Modification No. 1 for a construction contract for the Intersection Improvements at Habersham Street and Kensington Drive with JHC Corporation in the reduced amount of $16,435.05. This contract was originally approved by Council on December 22, 2016 in the amount of $223,882.50. The work included the removal of asphalt, installation of raised intersections with stamped crosswalks, and required utility modifications.

This contract modification is needed to address the final adjustments of contract quantities as a result of field modifications due to existing conditions. There were two drainage manholes that were in conflict with existing underground utilities that were not identified on the plans and were not marked during a utility locate before construction began. Because the existing storm-water runoff pattern had not changed with the intersection improvements, the existing drainage inlets were sufficient for handling the proposed storm-water runoff. As part of this field modification, the contractor will be compensated for labor associated with excavating the structures, backfilling, compaction of the soil, final grading and grassing the area. Construction has been completed.

The total amount of the contract to date, including this modification, is $207,447.05.
